Immigration DNA Testing

Immigration DNA Testing

Coordinated DNA relationship testing for immigration cases

AND DNA TEST can help coordinate immigration-related DNA relationship testing through an AABB-accredited relationship-testing laboratory.

DNA testing may be requested when an immigration authority determines that available documentation is insufficient to establish a claimed biological relationship. Testing is voluntary and does not replace the documentation required for an immigration case.

Please contact us before ordering or arranging sample collection. Immigration DNA testing must follow the process established by the requesting agency and the accredited laboratory.

Relationships that may be evaluated

Depending on the agency’s requirements and the people available to test, an immigration case may involve:

  • Parent and child testing
  • Maternity testing
  • Sibling testing
  • Grandparentage testing
  • Avuncular testing involving a biological aunt or uncle

Not every relationship test is appropriate or accepted in every case. The requesting agency and accredited laboratory determine the applicable requirements.

Domestic and international collection

Testing may involve participants located in the United States, outside the United States, or in multiple countries.

Participants in the United States are scheduled for verified sample collection at an appropriate collection location. When a participant is outside the United States, collection must be coordinated according to the applicable embassy, consulate, agency, and laboratory procedures.

Participants should not independently collect or mail samples for an immigration case.

How the process works

1. An immigration authority requests or recommends DNA testing

Follow the instructions provided by the agency handling the immigration matter. Do not purchase a standard at-home DNA test.

2. Contact AND DNA TEST

Tell us which country or countries are involved, the biological relationship being evaluated, where each participant is located, and which agency is handling the case.

3. The case and collections are coordinated

The accredited laboratory establishes the case and coordinates the required chain-of-custody collections. Procedures and timing vary according to participant locations and agency requirements.

4. Testing and reporting are completed

The laboratory performs the relationship analysis and sends the official results according to the requesting agency’s requirements.

DNA testing can provide evidence of a biological relationship, but it does not guarantee approval of an immigration petition, visa, passport, or citizenship application.
